Installation

Step 1 - Removing the hatch panels

There are two panels to remove. Remove the one that near the hatch glass first (simply pull it down. It's hold by clips).

After the inner panel is removed. On each side there is a push pin. Pry out the push pin and remove the outer panel. Once the outer panel is loosen, unplug the white connector on the left. Set the panels aside.

Step 2 - Connect the signals in the hatch

Take out the signal harness.

Connect the external release signal connector. The connector is located in the middle, unplug it and plug the connector to our bypass connector. Plug the other end of our connector pair back to the car.

On the same harness, there is a 5 pin connector, connect it to the small module given. Stick it to the inner wall inside the hatch.

The remaining bypass pair is for the trunk closing button. We will do it when we reassemble the hatch panel. Note: this connector pair need to be connected in order for the foot sensor to function.

Now run the remaining long wire down to the trunk.

Step 2 - Run the wire to the trunk

We will need to run the end with the 2 pin connector down to the trunk. First run it down and through the grommet, then work on the the indicated location. Use a fishing tape to run the wire. This is the most tricky part.

Continue to tug the wire along the right side of the seal, until you reach the trunk sill. Connect the two pin connector to the foot sensor harness.

Step 4 - Run the wire to the front

Get out the long 2 pin wire. This is an extension wire that you will need to run from the back to the front.

Remove the rear and front trunk load floor

(Optional) Remove the trunk sill trim. It is okay if you don't remove it. Release the clips that attach the trunk sill trim to the body.

Tip: Pull the corner of the trunk sill trim upwards to release the corner clip, and then release the remaining clips.

Pull upward on the RH load floor bracket to release the tabs (x3) and clips (x2) that attach the bracket to the vehicle, and then remove the bracket from the vehicle. The picture below shows the left side, but it's the right side that you need to remove only.

Run the wire on where the bracket sit to the C pillar, then run the wire along the floor. Tug the wire inside the side trim to hide it.

Run the wire all the way to Right side of the car, behind kick panel.

Step 5 - Connect the decoder harness

On the right side of the car (the picture below shows left side of the car, but do the right side instead), release the upper clip that attaches the middle A-Pillar trim to the vehicle, and then pull the trim upwards to remove it from the vehicle.

Release the topmost clip on the lower A-pillar trim.

Pull the rearmost part of the lower A-pillar trim upward to release the clips and tabs, and then pull the entire trim rearward to remove the trim from the vehicle.

On the decoder harness, you will need to connect the power source and the CANBUS. For the power route the red wire to the frunk through the firewall. Connect the power to the 12v battery (For 2022+ car, connect the power to the jump post).

On the decoder harness, you can see a big white connector. Connect it to the blue idle connector behind the carpet near the door on the right side of the car.

Connect the decoder. Make sure you set the 1 and 2 of the switches on the decoder to "on".

Connect the long harness to the decoder harness by the 2 pin connector.

In the back of the car, connect the 2 pin connector of the same wire to the foot sensor harness wire.

Step 6 - Run the foot sensor wire down and connect the foot sensor

There are two ways to run the foot sensor wire down.

The easiest way is to run it through the trunk seal and fish the wire down. You can pry out the little plastic cover where the tow hook is located, and mount the sensor in the spot.

The more difficult way is to remove the trunk well and then fish the wire down.

Step 7 - Test the foot sensor

Now you can test the foot sensor. Try to test if the foot sensor get deactivated when the car is in car wash mode, when the emergency flash light is on, and when the car is not in Park mode. Reassemble everything after testing.

You might find that the foot sensor trigger the trunk open but it close right after raising a little. This is because the foot sensor logic need time to reset after closing. After the trunk close, there is a 10 second reset time before a kick sensor opening can work again. Try to wait for 10 seconds and do the opening, it will function again.

Troubleshooting

Q: The foot sensor does not work.

There are several things that you can check. First is to make sure the bypass connector on the trunk closing button is connected. Also make sure you connect both end of the long harness.
