# Penthouse Reset

A "penthouse reset" (also known as a hard reboot) cuts power from both the high-voltage and low-voltage systems to clear deep computer or electrical glitches.

## Applicable Models

* [x] Tesla Model 3 (All Years)
* [x] Tesla Model Y (All Years)

## Steps

### 1. Prepare the car

Open the frunk on touchscreen to prepare for low-voltage battery disconnection later.

Roll down the driver’s window completely. This prevents you from getting locked out if the electronic doors lose power.

Go to the touchscreen and select **Controls > Safety & Security > Power Off**. Wait a minute and do not touch the brake, pedals, or steering wheel.

### 2. Disconnect the High-Voltage (Penthouse) Connector

Lift and unlatch the bottom cushion of the rear passenger seat to access the high-voltage (HV) penthouse.

Remove the protective cover over the HV connector (if applicable), then unlatch/disconnect the main high-voltage plug from the battery pack.

### **3. Disconnect the Low-Voltage (12V / 16V) Battery**

Go to the frunk (front trunk), take out the underhood apron. Remove the plastic battery cowl/cover, and disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the 12V battery. Wrap the terminal in a clean rag so it doesn't accidentally touch the post.

Leave the vehicle completely disconnected and powered down for **at least 2 to 5 minutes** to drain residual capacitor power.

### **4. Reconnect the system (Reverse order):**

Reconnect the 12V low-voltage negative terminal first.

Re-latch the high-voltage penthouse connector under the rear seat.

### **5. Final check**

Put the interior panels and covers back into place. Give the car a few minutes to boot back up and recalibrate.

The errors should be cleaned.
